I've been to Pigeon Forge a number of times. I haven't been to all the attractions, but I have seen the Dixie Stampede. They also have night spots for Louise Mandrell and Alabama. They have helicopter rides, two, very large outlet malls, bungee jumping and go carts.
Gatlinburg has a Ripley's Aquarium. Generally the merchandise stores in Gatlinburg are a cut above those found in Pigeon Forge. The national park sits right at the boundaries of Gatlinburg. By turning up Airport Road, you can go through the Roaring Fork Scenic Drive, if you don't really want to visit the rest of the park.
Forget Cherokee, North Carolina. It does have a great outdoor play (Unto These Hills) and museum, but its shops are junky, not to mention that it's a good 50 miles from Pigeon Forge.
If you are looking for something more exciting than shows, I would suggest zip lining, helicopter tours, indoor skydiving, or Zorb (its sort of like rolling down a hill in a giant hamster ball).
For a different type of show than most others in the area, Cirque de Chine is certainly worth it! Its an acrobatic show with some amazing stunts!
For saving money, I would suggest www.gpssavingscard.com. Its a $10 card, but will provide some great discounts at several different attractions.
Have a good time on your trip! What is the funnest thing to do in Pigeon Forge TN?
